I’ve always been a bit of a sports junkie and I’ve been playing squash and hockey competitively in Hong Kong since I was a little girl. I’m a top ranked squash player in Hong Kong, as well as top 3 in Asia in my age group. I also play hockey for the Hong Kong National U15 Team and aspire to play for the national women’s team when I’m old enough. As I play two very different sports, dealing with the pressures and coping with anxiety along the way of both sports was, and still is, really tough and sometimes it’s not easy to maintain a balanced mental state. I can only imagine the hardship that some people have to go through when they have to deal with this issue all the time. This is why I really hope to be able to make an impact by helping with this campaign and hopefully in some small way help to diminish the stigma surrounding the issue of mental health in today’s society.

Alex Sanz

Well, I can help you but it has to come from you about the way you feel towards mental health.

I’m a Philippine singer that’s been working in Hong Kong for eight years now. I like to spend time with my daughter and friends. The band I’ve worked with has been shut down due to covid restrictions.

We hope to play again soon but the amount of stress placed upon us has been significant. This goes for most singers and bands mostly of Philippine decent working in Hong Kong.

We deal with and see first hand mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. I hope that Hong Kong can recover from the pandemic and that everyone’s mental state will improve in a positive light.

I am a member of the Hong Kong Men’s National Ice Hockey team having represented Hong Kong internationally in different tournaments. Since being introduced to the game of hockey at the age of 6, I was instantly hooked by the sport, the fast-paced, ever-changing game with tons of variable which requires you to react instantly on the ice. It was a challenge physically and mentally but I enjoy and treasure every time I get to step on the ice. I am very fortunate to have met a lot of friends through the sport and to witness the growth among us while supporting each other along the way has been a fruitful and unforgettable experience. I am also an avid reader which allows me to have peace of mind and to focus on self-improvement during my free time. With a year left in my studies at CUHK, I am excited to see what the future holds.

Even though she's still on the path for higher achievement, the passion behind the sport has become a major motivation for her improvement, both in Hockey and in her own life. That’s how she met Barry Beck.
